Amy Winehouse will have a statue in the London Roundhouse music venue
The venue for concerts and stage shows Roundhouse in the London Borough of Camden will host a bronze statue in honor of the late British singer Amy Winehouse, today reported a spokesman for the center. The historic building is situated in North London, near the house where he lived and where he Winehouse found dead last July, when he was 27 years. The Roundhouse has hosted in recent times concert performers like Bob Dylan or classical music groups like the London Contemporary Orchestra. "We believe it is important that the contribution to the music of Amy is recognized in Camden, but the idea is still in the early stages of conception," said spokeswoman Roundhouse. The monument of the considered "soul diva" would be made of bronze, life size, and be exposed on a balcony on the first floor of the center next to the Roundhouse bar, explained the artist's father, Mitch Winehouse, the daily "Camden New Journal." "What we would like is that the statue of Amy was on the balcony, watching and perhaps pointing towards Camden Town and Chalk Farm Road," the parent. On July 23, 2011, Winehouse, who for years had had problems with addiction to alcohol and drugs, was found dead in his home district of Camden Town, after having consumed large quantities of alcohol.
